When building gets exhausting, here's what to do
During the week, I shared a video where I was dancing during a photo shoot on LinkedIn.
Adedoyin dancing? A lot of people were quite shocked. I like how someone put it: “I am finding it hard to reconcile this dancing Adedoyin with the serious Adedoyin that I know.”
This made me laugh. Two truths can co-exist. I am naturally a very serious and focused person but I also love to dance.
Isn’t the same true about working in and building a career in Communications?
One minute you are filled with energy and you are ready to take on the world. You cannot imagine yourself doing anything else. The next minute you are wondering why you chose this career path after back to back days of stretching work.
You love working in Communications but you also don’t want the work to consume your entire life. You have other sides of you that you’d like to nurture.
As you build your career, it will be become necessary to define what is most important to you. Building a successful Communications career can be exhausting, especially when you continually have to deal with working with organisations and clients that really do not understand what you do and why your work is important. Having to continually defend your presence and value can also be tiring.
This doesn’t have to be your reality for too long. I have leveraged competence, confidence, character and faith in God to build a career footprint that I can look back on and be proud of.
Building a Communications career may be stretching but it can also be beautiful, rewarding and fulfilling. And I hope the content I share with you brings you a step closer to achieving your career goals
Speaking of content, my second bite-sized Comms course on Mastering the Art of Church Communications is now live on YouTube. If you manage Comms for a Church, ministry or faith-based organisaton, this course will teach you the fundamentals to succeed in that role.
You can watch the course here and also share with a colleague that needs this course. PS: Do share feedback with me with you complete the course.
If you are not a church communicator, you can catch up on my last Comms course on Corporate Communications here.
